Prepping Your Yard For The Holidays

The countdown to the holidays is on! In just a few weeks you’ll be ushering in guests for dinners and parties and Christmas caroling. How does your yard look from the street?

Now is the perfect time to go stand in the street and take a good look at your home. Imagine it with a blanket of snow, twinkling lights in the eaves. What will your family see as they pull up on a beautiful holiday evening?

We have a few ideas to making your home a little more impressive for the holidays. Start now before the snows come and you’ll reap the benefits.

  • Winterize Lawn and Garden: Do one small trim of your lawn once you notice it has slowed its growth. This will ensure that the grass retains important nutrients through winter months. Pull out any remaining weeds, fertilize grass and garden, and trim your edges so they don’t interfere with shoveling or snow-blowers.
  • Additional Lighting: You can add small spotlights around the exterior of your home to really light it up for the holidays. Consider adding a small spotlight to illuminate your house numbers, making it easier for guests to find. Shining light on pretty bushes or trees can also increase your curb appeal.
  • Walkways: Adding a concrete walkway is a very easy way to upgrade your yard for the holiday season, and to make it easier to access other parts of your yard, even in the snow. You can pour a clean path like a normal sidewalk, or you might invest in paver stones for a more custom look. You can buy pre-made slabs or pour your own as a great weekend DIY project.
  • Yard Décor: Holiday decorations aren’t just for your living room or Christmas tree. There are a variety of ways to bring holiday spirit to your yard, such as an outdoor decorated tree, inflatable Frosty the Snowman, a small lit Santa’s sleigh, and of course your house holidays lights if you install those. You don’t need to put them up right now, but you can begin looking for them now.
  • Prep for Snow Removal: It’s not all that exciting, but start thinking now about how you’ll remove snow and ice for your visiting friends and family members. Stock up on ice-melt, gloves, and a solid shovel or snow-blower. Preparing now will help you tackle the mountain of snow you’ll face on Christmas Eve with a smile on your face and a carol in your heart.

We wish you the very best this holiday season, and support you in all your home improvement projects before the festivities begin.
