Upscale Home Decor on a Budget

Turning your home into an upscale oasis doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. A few simple, and inexpensive changes can take your home from plain to perfect, and give a high-quality look to your living spaces.

Ritzy Remodeling

Some very simple remodeling of your main living spaces (living room, kitchen, family room) can bring the atmosphere in your home from ordinary to extraordinary. You can install some nice features at a low cost that make a big statement. Having nice countertops in the kitchen really makes the whole space sparkle, but natural stone is not in most people’s price range. Consider concrete countertops instead, which can be finished to resemble tile, natural stone, or something unique at a fraction of the cost.

Adding crown molding in your living and dining rooms provides a finished, high-end look, and can be done using an inexpensive baseboard that you can install yourself. To really bring some sophisticated color to a room, opt for neutral paint on the walls, with one colorful accent wall. This makes space seem bigger and more open than painting all of the walls one color does.

Obtaining Nice Furniture

If you haven’t got a lot of room in your budget for furniture, skip the cheap stuff and opt for gently used high-quality items. Nice furniture really adds to space, and you can find like-new items for a great price in consignment shops. Your furniture doesn’t all need to match exactly, as long as it goes well together and follows the same theme.

High-End Finishes

Not everything in your home has to be expensive or high-end. You can mix basic items with just a few really nice accessories to give an upscale feel to the whole space. Basic doors can be brought to life with unique doorknobs. Contractor-selected lighting can be replaced with second-hand choices that have more character. Opt for nicer window treatments, since they give a very different feel than their cheaper counterparts do.

Punched Up Accessories

Small touches make a big difference when it comes to making a room look put together. Using throw pillows is a great way to tie furniture pieces together. A nice area rug is perfect for adding color and hiding problems with flooring. Using nice picture frames that go along with the decor is inexpensive and looks great.

Clean = Cared For

No matter how nice your home looks, your tasteful touches will go unnoticed if space is overloaded with clutter. Rather than crowding a space with loose mail, throw blankets and chotchkies, keep things simple and clean for the most impact.
