Countertops Trends

Countertops are one area of your home in which is pays to splurge. You can cut corners in certain spots, but your countertops should never be one of them. Why? Because of how much time and energy you’ll spend directly on that surface. They’re functional for your meal prepping needs. They’re educational for your kid’s homework and science projects. They’re storage for the things you use everyday. They’re style that indicates your taste.

Ugly and/or cheap countertops are difficult to hide, and they’re the first thing people will notice when they enter your kitchen. Additionally, cheap countertops show more stains, cuts, water damage, and wear-and-tear than a higher quality option. You will probably find yourself repairing or replacing them much sooner, meaning the cost is actually higher in the end to buy cheap countertops.

If you’re building, buying, or remodeling a home, take careful time to consider the countertops. If you don’t like them – you can change them! If you thought you’d just pick the most basic countertops you may want to do some additional research.

Top 3 Countertop Trends

Quartz!

The fastest growing trend of countertops.  This child of stone and laminate, quartz can boast of the endless color and price of laminate, while also having the strength, durability, and heat/stain resistance of stone products (while being slightly more environmentally friendly). It’s less porous than stone, meaning it’s more sanitary. Some manufacturers even offer a warranty, which you’ll never get with stone countertops!

Concrete!

Many people do a double-take when they hear “concrete countertops” picturing sports park concessions stands or playgrounds. But concrete countertops are actually the second fastest growing trend. They are virtually indestructible, sealed for food-safe purposes, and can even be stained to achieve different colors. Another thing people like to do with concrete countertops is to inlay the concrete with a stamped design, stones, or pieces of glass to form a totally unique mosaic. The most unique and helpful feature that leads people to choose concrete countertops is that they can be set and poured into any mold, meaning they can be made to custom fit any type of space. This is particularly nice in older homes or those with a strange shape or layout. Be sure to use a professional like Hard Rock Concrete to ensure that it is laid flat, level, and is completely sealed for food safety.

Granite!

This classic stone will probably be a fixture of kitchens for the next few decades. It’s beautiful, unique, durable, and food-safe. There are a variety of types of granite from which to choose, and although pricey, there is a range of prices to fit any budget. You may see it in every home on the block, but it can still look fresh and stylish in your home. Make sure to visit a variety of providers to compare prices and colors of granite before purchasing.

Of course you have a budget, and of course you want to save as much money as possible. You want to get the bang for your buck. But any homeowner will tell you that beautiful, functional countertops that you love are an investment well worth making.
